The department of audio production has over the last 25 years established oneself as the largest provider of audio production expertise within Norway. The program is widely known in the entertainment and culture industry, and a significant proportion of those working in these industries today have previously studied at our department. From autumn 2011 we offer an education at college level.
As a student you will be part of a large sound engineering environment working on films, TV productions, commercials, dubbing, music studio, live sound, theatre sound and more. Such a variety of college-level audio production training within the same institution represents something new in Norway. Your opportunity to meet with other NISS students in roles as directors, photographers, actors, make-up artists, musicians, lighting technicians, production managers among others make our curriculum exciting.
We offer the following programs:
One year program in audio production
This program offers a fundamental education to college level with a focus on sound design and music production. The purpose is to provide students with a breadth of knowledge that forms a good foundation for further studies in these two disciplines or other fields involving audio in any form. This foundation is also well suited for assistant or recruitment vacancies in the industry, as well as in entertainment and cultural industry generally.
Further programs, Bachelor’s Degree
We will during spring 2011 also apply for approval of two Bachelor's Degree studies in Sound Design and Music Production respectively. This means that we aim to offer a three-year Bachelor's Degree program in these two disciplines at NISS.
Until this is approved we will offer a second year program at high school level with the opportunity to be awarded a Bachelor’s Degree based on a third-year at the University of Wolverhampton, England. We will also, after a full three-year Bachelor’s Degree program is approved at NISS, maintain the ability to combine our studies with studies abroad.
As a student you will have the opportunity to specialise in Sound Design or Music Production.
Sound design
A sound designer work traditionally on film and broadcast productions, but development of new technologies and platforms allows the sound designer to work within several other areas such as sound design for games, web, audio books/podcasts, and mobile services.
Music production
Our study on music production focuses on what is traditionally referred to as live sound and studio engineering. With such an education you will also be well qualified to work for theatres, the conference/event industry, and the like. If you have a dream of becoming a music producer, this study will be a good starting point for you.
Fluency in Norwegian is required.
